Opportunity

Meraki Wellness is seeking an experienced Head Therapist who is excited to be part of a company with heart. We seek a kind, responsible professional with excellent supervisory, practical, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Optimise guests’ and members’ satisfaction by providing exceptional treatments and excellent service throughout their Meraki experience
  • Assist the Spa Manager in the management and growth of spa therapists and beauticians, acting as a point of communication between staff and management
  • Support spa management in implementing the Spa’s SOP’s, policies, core values and vision.
  • Consistently uphold all Meraki Wellness standards, guidelines, and policies, setting an excellent example for other staff at all times
  • To perform spa therapies to the highest of standards while consistently following all Meraki Wellness practical treatment protocols taught by either the Meraki Wellness team or their chosen trainers
  • Be a conscientious Meraki Wellness team member. Actively build and maintain supportive relationships with guests, colleagues, and Spa management

Requirements

  • Certified Spa Therapist at CIDESCO qualified or equivalent
  • Certified Massage Therapist
  • Proficient in First Aid and CPR
  • Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology
  • Qualified in Deep Muscle, Swedish and Aromatherapy Massage
  • Qualified in Facials, Beauty and Grooming treatments
  • Ability to operate wellness and spa equipment

Career History

  • Minimum 3 years experience as a spa therapist in a luxury 5* spa
  • Proven supervisory skills and training or teacher experience

Experience

  • Caring and confident supervisory skills
  • A professional team player who is kind, charismatic and positive
  • Detailed oriented. Passionate about exceptional guest service – ideally, Forbes 5* experience
  • Adept in creating and conducting successful training sessions
  • 5* personal presentation – an excellent example for those embarking on a wellness lifestyle
  • Ability to keep calm under pressure and perform well.
  • Fluent in English – excellent verbal and written skills. Speaks with compassion and empathy
  • Passionate about wellness, health and beauty
  • A holistic, healing approach to wellness.
  • A caring, nurturing therapist who performs intuitive treatments with heart
  • Discrete and responsible

Desirable

  • Experience with Zenoti Spa Software
  • Sales and customer service training an advantage
  • Experience in a luxury Private Members Club
  • Pre-opening spa experience in a luxury environment
  • Qualified in an alternative wellness modality, e.g. Sound healing, breathwork, reiki
  • Fitness and Nutrition Certificate

Responsibilities

General Operations

  • Understand that a professional, high-quality, intuitive treatment constitutes the core experience – the soul – of the Spa and act accordingly, with respect and a high degree of personal responsibility and professionalism in the role of Head Therapist and when giving treatments at all times
  • Take 100% responsibility for fulfilling all tasks, duties and treatments expected of a professional head therapist within a luxury spa operation
  • Responsible for monitoring all facility, equipment and service standards and keeping the Spa Manager appraised of any issues that may affect the smooth operation of the Spa
  • Maintain all operational and treatment standards as per the relevant SOP’s and guidelines
  • Understand and consistently implement the Meraki Wellness concept and culture
  • Always present a healthy and well-cared-for appearance, showcasing immaculate grooming and hygiene standards
  • Maintain the highest levels of discretion and confidentiality for all guests of Meraki Wellness
  • Collect any concerns or comments that aid the successful running of Meraki Wellness and report to Spa Management. This can include anything from positive feedback and suggestions to maintenance problems or issues with the facility, mechanical equipment, or service standards. Assist the Spa Manager in reviewing all suggestions and comments
  • Monitor operating supplies and support the Spa Manager in generating purchase requisitions

Guest Journey

  • Establish and maintain exceptional customer relationships with members and guests
  • Ensure guests are provided with the highest level of comfort and service
  • Create an authentic, warm and welcoming environment when guiding the guests through their journey
  • Be able to communicate clearly with the guest during all stages of their journey so they can genuinely place themselves under your guidance and care.  Take responsibility for the guest throughout their journey, ensuring a smooth handover once your services and care of the guest are complete, to the guest’s satisfaction and expectations
  • Confident in performing consultations and working with health assessment forms.  Confident to adjust and deliver all treatments according to the information provided by the guest
  • Maintain the highest levels of hygiene and cleanliness of all spa facilities
  • Be respectful, responsible, and sensible with the amount and usage of spa products and supplies
  • Be fully knowledgeable and able to tailor all products used in beauty, facial, body and massage treatments at the Spa according to the guest’s individual needs
  • Be aware of guest privacy at all times, especially when engaged in duties in guest areas, such as lockers and wet and relaxation areas.  Always maintain discretion and awareness of guest movement.

Retail

  • Actively support the spa operation in reaching retail goals
  • Create authentic product recommendations. Prescribe products that will help your guest reach their desired goals
  • Be well informed on all aspects of retail products, including their benefits, USPs, how to use them and their price
  • Be confident in dealing with guest retail requests and queries and know where to obtain information if unsure of the answer
  • Handle retail stock responsibly and sensibly
  • Report any issues in the retail area that may result in loss of sales, for example, a popular item that is nearly out of stock

HR

  • Assist the Spa Manager in developing individual employee development plans in accordance with the annual employee reviews
  • Assist with the on-boarding of new team members.  Assist the Spa Manager in keeping accurate and up-to-date records and statistics on spa employees and spa treatments. Support the Spa Manager in holding and directing employee meetings
  • Attend management and team meetings when requested and ensure you are well informed of any issues important to the effective and efficient management of guests and staff at the Spa

Team Development

  • Assist the Spa Manager in the management and growth of the spa therapists and beauticians
  • Keep the Spa Manager informed of employees’ performance, comments, and concerns
  • Assist the Spa Manager in giving guidance and direction to spa therapists and beauticians
  • Ongoing team training, ensuring treatment and spa protocols are upheld and delivered with the utmost excellence and service
  • Monitor the quality, development and effectiveness of all services offered at the Spa
  • Establish good working relationships with all employees and senior management to attain high effective working morale

Training

  • Assist in developing and implementing training programs that support the growth of the Spa and the individual employees
  • Assist in the induction of new spa employees and keep the Spa Manager informed of all employees’ performances
  • Assist in the training of existing employees where required and directed by management
  • Participate in training as required by operations and directed by management
  • Monitor the team’s understanding and development following team training and mentoring

Additional Requirements

The above is a description of the general duties of the Head Therapist role. Other duties may be required, depending on operations or at the request of the Meraki Wellness Senior Management Team. Given the nature of the industry, all employees at Meraki Wellness must be willing to work shift hours, including evenings, weekends, bank, and public holidays, when the operation requires it.

  • Base salary $38,000 US$ per annum
